Cleaning Or Polishing
Hi,
I just received a 1/4 Eagle Indian Head gold piece, AU. A little dull which I understand may have something to do with age but also looks 'grimy'. Is there any way to clean or attempt to clean this that wouldn't lessen the value? Thanks if advance. |
Re: Cleaning Or Polishing
Don't clean or polish at all. Just keep it the way it is.

Re: Cleaning Or Polishing
maybe acetone, if anything.
polishing it will reduce the value to bullion. |
Re: Cleaning Or Polishing
I'll pay no more than spot for a polished numi, usually less.

Re: Cleaning Or Polishing
+1 solvents only - no mechanical action/abrasives/polish.

Re: Cleaning Or Polishing
Do you have a picture so we can see what you mean by "grimy?" Definitely do not attempt to polish or rub clean the coin in any way, you'll do more damage than good.

Leave it be.

Re: Cleaning Or Polishing
Study study study - don't touch it - until you do.
Why drop the price by half and get the "dreaded 'CLEANED' body bag TOE TAG" on you slabbed coin tomorrow. Put the puppy in a good holder like SAFLIP 2 X 2 no PVC or Oil on them - polyethylene Terephthalate type for those in the TECHIE goodie vien...:10_1_19::signs14: |
Re: Cleaning Or Polishing
Sorry, between my picture taking skills and a coin slightly larger than a dime with finite detail I am not even going to attempt a picture. I'll just leave it be.
